Back to School Photography Ideas

Katie is getting quite emotional about her eldest daughter, Bella, starting school next week.  She wanted to get some good ideas for a fun “first day of school” photograph that she will remember forever.  We had a look on pinterest and found some lovely ideas and thought we would share them with you here along with a few tips to help.

If your child has already started school this week don’t panic!  It’s not too late to capture them looking cute in their first uniform.  Katie took this picture of Bella a week before she actually started as she knew that first morning would be a rushed panic and she wouldn’t get a relaxed picture.

bellaIf you like the black board idea above, get them to help you with it and if they can write, ask them to write their own name as Bella has done here. Don’t ask them to smile.  This picture of Bella was taken as Katie asked her what the funniest thing she had done that week had been.  Get them talking and keep snapping and you will get some lovely natrual pictures.  Their body language will also relax so their poses will be more natural. first day2We liked the idea of noting what date they started and what they want to be when they grow up so you could continue the tradition each year and see how their ambitions change and evolve.double pictureChoose a time when your child is happy and relaxed, and when you are not feeling rushed.  We love this idea of getting your child to hold the picture of them from the previous year.  It shows how much they have grown and changed!

They won’t be holding your hand for much longer, so this picture of a mother walking her son to school made our hearts melt.

This one is a bit more staged, but we thought the use of apples and vintage books was fun.  See what you can come up with.

And remember….

Good luck to everyone who starts school this year and to their parents!  We know it will be a proud and emotional day!
